| Manufactured in England by Charles Lancaster, gun, rifle and pistol maker, of 151 New Bond St. W. London. Circa late 1880s. 11 7/8 inch blade marked on the left side "CHARLES LANCASTER/151 NEW BOND ST." and inside the fuller "EXPLORER". Coarse checkered ebony one piece handle. Cast silver mounts. Over all length 17.75 inches. Complete with the original leather mounted leather scabbard. Bright polished blade is in very good over all condition showing some scattered minor rust spotting. Includes consignor supplied information on the knife from Restorative Welding of Oregon IL., which gives more precise measurements and notes. These notes state that the scabbard appears to be missing a retention device once mounted at the upper part, a notch in the knifes guard where the device would have caught to hold in place is evident., |
