| Description: |
| 45 ACP; 70% blue, good bore, good grips, 5'' barrel, Nicknamed "The Shanghai Colt", one of 194 pistols which were eventually sent to the Norwegian government for naval issue. Originally, 200 Government Model .45 caliber pistols were ordered by the French intended to be sent to the Shanghai Municipal Police, however when the Japanese overran Shanghai, the order was cancelled. When Norway ordered Colt pistols, the "Shanghai Colts" were diverted to the Royal Norwegian Naval Service in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1942, in two shipments. The pistols were issued to crew of Norwegian whaling boats which were providing convoy escort duties. This example has the original blue finish and checkered walnut grips. The slide has the standard Colt two line address and patent dates stamped along the left side, the right side with the Government Model and Rampant Colt markings. The right side frame extension has had the French markings "CONCESSION FRANCAISE SHANGHAI" overstamped with an upside down Colt's address roll mark, done when the pistols were diverted to the Norwegian navy. Along with the added serial number "No51". The parts are all correct vintage, and the special factory magazine originally ordered with the pistols, with viewing holes along the left front edge and spine, is present. The pistol has worn finish, areas of thinning with edge and handling wear, most finish worn from the grip frame straps. Also the sights have been modified, likely after sold as surplus, the original rear sight blade has been painted red, the original front sight blade has been filed at the rear with a touch of white paint added. Otherwise original and mechanically fine. Our import mark appears on the bottom of the frame. C&R/FFL, s/n C2088xx |
