| Description: |
| 7 X 57mm; 75% blue, good bore, good stock, 23'' barrel, An interesting DWM 1893 Mauser small ring action trials rifle with prototype flip-up combination front sight/muzzle cover. Circa 1896. Left side receiver marked "DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONS FABRIKEN, BERLIN.". Trigger guard marked "78" and floorplate marked "21". Blued metal finish over which is black paint finish. Bolt in the white, unmarked and un-numbered, with knob flatened on top and partially flatened on the bottom. Walnut full length stock and handguard, the stock with checkering around the wrist and semi-round knob. Two-position rear flip-up sight surrounded by the handguard. Has a unique combination bayonet lug/forend cap/muzzle cover/automatic front sight which was never adopted for production. The automatic muzzle cover/front sight assembly pivots up as pressure is applied on the trigger, presenting the barleycorn foresight for aiming, release pressure allows the muzzle cover/front sight to fold back down over the muzzle. The receiver ring has some roughly applied decoration on the sides and edge of the ring? Provenance: From the collection of Dr. Geoffrey Sturgess. Condition: Overall good. Bore is dark, rifling is strong and muzzle tight. Stock has one filled hole on the bottom forward of the sling swivel, The top of the handguard at the forend cap has a fairly recent chip of wood missing. Mechanically fine. Antique, s/n 10 |
