Description:
Manufactured in France by Chatellerault and dated 1891. This pattern cutlass was copied by the Dutch and by the U.S., issued as the M1860 Naval Cutlass during the American Civil War. 26.75 inch brigth blade, engraved on both sides with an anchor, close to the blackened iron guard. Complete with the original brass mounted leather scabard, which is stamped with an anchor at the top edge of the chape. The blade is in overall very good condition showing some minor spotting, and the very tip has some slight damage. The guard has a tiny split and a small area of damage to the rolled edge along the outer cup. The cupped guard also is beginning to separate for about an inch at the back where is attaches to the D guard brace. The scabbard is intact, being dry with surface leather cracking overall.,
