| 8.15x46mmR; 96% blue, very good bore, good stock, 29'' barrel, This particular Wehrmanngewehr rifle is another example of a GEW98 infantry rifle that was converted for single shot target shooting circa mid 1920's, when these larger caliber rifles were becoming popular in Germany with the various sport shooting clubs. The magazine well having a wooden block with cartridge channel for single loading. Built using surplus GEW 98 rifles and parts, the receiver on this rifle is scrubbed of any original markings and has been refinished. Crown/B and U proofs are located on the right side of the receiver ring. Roll stamped across the receiver ring "WEHRMANNBUCHSE". The barrel is proofed on the left side and is marked with the caliber designation "8,15x46.NORMAL". A serial number has been electro-penciled onto the left side of the receiver ring "319". The straight handled bolt, buttplate, magazine release, trigger guard and floorplate, rear sight and upper and lower bands are all numbered and matching, however do not match the applied serial number 319 on the receiver. Beechwood stock and handguard are not numbered externally. The rifle has the standard inverted V front sight, and has the original GEW tangent rear sight. The rear sight has star markings added on the left side of the base, presumeably for the 175 and 300 meter ranges for the 8.15mm cartridge. The metal finish is bright and even overall showing a few minor scratches. The beechwood stock has a two piece butt, is overall in Good condition however there are grain stress cracks on both sides at end of the butt. The bore has sharp rifling, showing slight frost throughout. Original cleaning rod present., Training Rifles of Third Reich Germany pp , s/n 3xx |
