| Description: |
| 7.63mm Mauser; 92% blue, fair bore, very good grips, 5.5'' barrel, From the collection of Dr. Geoffrey Sturgess. Mfr c.1897. Original blued finish, fire blued small parts, original and matching grooved walnut handles. Matching serial numbers except for the magazine floorplate. Crown/U proofed on the left side of the barrel extension. The top of the barrel knox is stamped "WAFFENFABRIK / MAUSER / OBERNDORF A/N". The top of the barrel is hand stamped "KYNOCH". It is noted that this hand stamped marking was applied at Kynoch for their collection of ammunition testing and trials firearms. Fixed front sight. Tangent rear sight graduated for 50-500 meters. Distinctive cone hammer. Condition: The blued finish shows edge wear and high point wear at the forward areas of the receiver rails. Thin finish around the top of the barrel knox. Some scratches on the back of the grip frame below the takedown latch, all too common on these. Small parts retain generous bright fire blue with the exception of the rear sight adjusting slider which shows loss/flaking. The grips show light wear with some loss of the original varnish finish. There is some scattered very minor spotting most of which is on the barrel. Clean internals. The bore is frosted, and shows some wear to the rifling. Overall a well preserved example of these famous early "broomhandle" pistols. Antique., s/n 64xx |
