| Description: |
| 22 LONG RIFLE; 85% blue, good bore, good stock, 29'' barrel, Finnish SA stamped on the right side of the stock next to the take down ring. These conversions were manufactured by several different makers, using surplus GEW 98 rifles and parts. The original markings were scrubbed and unless they were converted by some of the more well known firearms makers, they were usually for the most part unmarked. This example has a receiver "in the white" with blued parts. Mounted in a beechwood stock and handguard. The barrel is sleeved for 22 caliber for its full length and a screw has been added into the top of the barrels chamber to secure. The bolt has been altered with an offset firing pin and longer extractor. The face of the bolt is marked CWG and DRGM. The barrel and receiver are serial numbered and matching. None of the other parts are numbered. The bolt handle shank is stamped with crown/B and U proofs. Crown/B, U and N proofs are located on the right side of the receiver ring. The left side of the barrel is stamped with a crown/N and Nitro proof. The top of the left side receiver rail is stamped "DRGM". The red magazine follower is made for single loading. Rifle retains the original military front inverted V sight and tangent rear sight, the sides of the sight base have been stamped with arrow marks for settings for the 22 cartridge. Original cleaning rod prsent. The metal and wood show some wear and handling. The Finnish SA marking on the stock gives interesting history to this rifle. From the Robert Simpson collection and pictured in the book Training Rifles of Third Reich Germany on page 441., Training Rifle of Third Reich Germany pp 441, s/n 5xx |
