| Description: |
| 8x57mm; 97% blue, excellent bore, very good+ stock, 23.5'' barrel, Portuguese contract 937-A Short Rifle manufactured by Mauser-Werke in Oberndorf Germany in 1937. These rifles were basically the standard K98k rifles being made in Germany, small differences being the addition of sling swivels on the bottom of the lower band and bases for detachable swivels on the bottom and left side of the butt. Differed also in the protective ears on the front sight base. Original blued finish and walnut stock. Portuguese crest marked over the chamber above the 1937 date. Rifle is all matching down to the action screws and cleaning rod. Mauser eagle/63 and eagle/WaA63 proofs appear on most all small parts. Nazi eagle/swaztika acceptance marks located on the left side of the barrel and receiver ring. The right side of the receiver ring is stamped with a trio of eagle/63 proofs. The stock has scattered small dings, with sharp droop eagle/WaA63 proofs, one on the bottom behind the trigger guard, two at the bottom center of the butt, and two on the right side of the butt. A stick eagle/WaA63 proof is located on the front of the stocks grip. Eagle/swaztika acceptance mark on the right side of the butt nearest the takedown ring. And the top of the handguard is stamped with a single stick eagle/WaA63 proof. A very nice example of a hard to find Mauser rifle. The bore has strong rifling, showing darkness in the grooves. Import marked under the end of the barrel., s/n C12xx |
