| 12 GAUGE; 90% blue, good bore, very good stock, 28.25'' barrel, J.P.SAUER MODEL 47-S SXS DOUBLE BARRELED SHOTGUN WITH SIDELOCKS, MARKED "HOLLAND & HOLLAND". MANUFACTURED DECEMBER 1948. BLUED FINISH BARRELS WITH 2 3/4" CHAMBERS, FULL AND MODIFIED CHOKES. BLUED SIDEPLATES EMBELLISHED WITH PLATINUM DOUBLE LINE BORDER INLAY, ALSO AROUND THE EDGES ON THE REAR OF THE BARRELS. THE BLUING SHOWS LIGHT WEAR ON THE BARRELS AND THE SIDEPLATES SHOW LIGHT FRECKLING THE UNDERSIDE OF THE RECEIVER SHOWS THE HEAVIEST WEAR. THE BORES HAVE SHINE HOWEVER DO SHOW SOME LIGHT CORROSION. THE LEFT BARREL HAS A DENT 5.5" FROM THE MUZZLE THAT IS VISIBLE IN THE BORE. THE ACTION HAS A GREENER CROSSBOLT WITH DEEP EAGLE CLAW ENGRAVED BOLSTERS WITH SIDECLIPS. DUAL UNDERLUGS WITH EJECTORS. DOUBLE TRIGGERS. ROTATING COCKING INDICATORS. THE FINELY CHECKERED WALNUT BUTTSTOCK AND FOREARM SHOW VERY LIGHT WEAR. HOWEVER THE FOREARM HAS A SLIVER OF WOOD MISSING AT THE UPPER LEFT SIDE EDGE. 14.25" LOP WITH THE ORIGINAL SERRATED PLASTIC BUTTPLATE. SAUER MADE SHOTGUNS WERE MARKETED BY ABERCROMBIE & FITCH, V.L.& A AND V.L.& D. THIS UNIQUE SHOTGUN WITH THE HOLLAND & HOLLAND MARKINGS MAKES US THINK THAT PERHAPS THEY WERE MARKETED BY H&H ALSO. THE OBJECTS OF THIS RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE GERMANS AND THE ENGLISH AFTER WW2 SEEM UNLIKELY, HOWEVER FOR A SHORT TIME AFTER THE WAR THE ALLIES HAD A STRANGE FASCINATION WITH RUSSIA, WHO HAD CONTROL OF SUHL AT THE TIME.
