| Description: |
| 303 British; 90% blue, excellent bore, excellent stock, 25.25'' barrel, Savage manufactured No4 MKI* rifle, fitted up by Holland & Holland to be issued as a snipers rifle. Original blue metal finish. Mounted in a birchwood buttstock and handguards, with a walnut forend. Matching bolt. The forend is not numbered nor a Savage part, marked at the bottom tip with a crown proof over N49. All other parts are S marked for Savage manufacture except the brass buttplate and magazine which are British made parts and upper band which is a Long Branch part. The bottom of the buttstock grip is stamped with an original S51 Holland & Holland code. The cheekrest and scope base pads are original as installed by Holland & Holland. No import marks, the end of the barrel is stamped with the British export "tons" markings. No auxillary sling swivel has been installed at the front of the trigger guard, which would have been removed if it was decided not to scope the rifle, which was the case with most of the Savage made No4 rifles which Holland & Holland began to fit up. The scope base pads do not have the screws peened, since the rifle never had a scope fitted, this was not done. Included with the rifle is a reproduction Mo32 MKI scope which has replicated markings, a 1941 date and serial number 1044, and leather lens covers. The scope is mounted to a reproduction mount as well. The scope has as new optics with a pointer/crosshair reticle. The scope mount fits the pads well, without any problems. The rifle is mechanically fine with a bright sharp 5 groove bore. C&R/FFL, s/n 15C01xx |
