| 52 Cal; good bore, good stock, 30'' barrel, Manufactured 1863-1864. Fixed front sight/bayonet lug, ladder rear sight. Original metal finish, walnut stock and forend with 3 bands. Stamped on top of the frame "SPENCER REPEATING/RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS./PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860" serial number on top of the rear frame. No legible markings on the stock. Original magazine tube inside the buttstock. The metal has turned a mixed light brown patina and gray with scattered spotting. The stock has an area on top of the wrist where is appears a tang type sight may have once been mounted, now roughly filled, with a brass pin thru the top wrist. This rifle may have once been exposed to heat as the finish on the wood has charred and raised in areas on the butt and upper forend. Complete and mechanically fine. Antique, s/n 238xx |
