| 45-70 Govt; 70% blue, fair bore, good stock, 32 5/8'' barrel, Early featured M1873 rifle with original blue finish, dark oil quenched breechblock and walnut stock. Original cleaning rod and leather sling. Early coarse checkered hammer spur without border. Lockplate marked with Eagle motif and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873". Top of breechblock marked "MODEL/1873" over eagleshead, over crossed arrows and "U S". Barrel is stamped over the left side with proofs VP and eagleshead. Oval ESA cartouche on left side of stock and script circle P firing proof on bottom of grip. The metal has light surface rusting over all, I cleaned a small portion of the barrel, and the surface rust removed easily, however left some spotting in the finish. The sling is dry. Mechanically fine. The bore has areas of darkness and light pitting. Antique, s/n 565xx |
