| 45-70 Government; 97% blue, near mint bore, excellent stock, 32 5/8'' barrel, Exceptional original condition "Trapdoor" rifle, blued finish with casehardened breechblock, marked "U.S. / MODEL / 1884". Walnut stock with crisp and clear SWP/1889 dated inspector cartouche. Script circle P firing proof on stock grip. Buttplate tang U.S. marked with W inspector mark. Fixed front sight with original protector attached. Buffington rear sight. Original cleaning rod. Lockplate is marked forward of the hammer with the Eagle and "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD". Includes the attached M1907 leather sling which is not marked however appears to be an original. The stock has a few widely scattered and minor handling dings. Mentionable wear is around the muzzle of the barrel likely from occasional bayonet attachement and on the high spots heel and toe on the blued buttplate. The bore is sharp and bright. A very crisp M1884 Trapdoor rifle. Included with this rifle is an original M1873 bayonet with scabbard. The bayonet is US marked and retains 98% original blued finish. The blued steel scabbard is complete with the leather frog and brass belt hook. The scabbard has some spotting however has generous blued finish. Also includes a proper pattern leather sling which is not marked but appears original, however is weak at the brass hook end and would not be recommended for use in carrying the rifle. An original combination tool and ruptured case extractor is also included., s/n 4477xx |
