| 45/70; 80% blue, excellent bore, very good+ grips, 20'' barrel, The Springfield model 1884 was one of the "Trapdoor Springfield" rifles. It was an improved replacement for the previous longarm of the U.S. Armed Forces, the Springfield model 1873. This is a cut down rifle. The front sight is a ramped blade and the rear sight is a ladder type. The top of the trap door is stamped U.S. / MODEL / 1884 The S/N is on the top rear part of the receiver. The lock plate is stamped with a large eagle and U.S. / SPRINGFIELD. The action works well. The bore is excellent. The metal finish has mild thinning & mild patina. The stock has been cut down and is in very good plus condition. It has a saddle ring. The buttplate has scattered patina. Overall, very nice condition. ANTIQUE, s/n 3508xx |
