| Description: |
| An example of a custom made shoulder holster for the M1911A1 .45 Cal pistols. GI's would have these made by local sattlers in Europe, or produce them themselves. Many GI's who were not normally issued a .45 pistol were able to get their hands on one, and a favored way to carry was under a field jacket or coat. My Grandfather told me the reasons were two fold, one it kept from having to hang the pistol on an already overloaded equipment belt, second it kept the pistol hidden from certain officers who would harrass GI's caught with pistols who were not issued them. Quite a few variations of these holsters can be seen. This example is not marked, fits an M1911A1 pistol perfectly, the shoulder straps are attached using two rivits. Strap and stud for the belt loop and keeper strap and stud. Quality of work is very good. The tip of the chest strap is torn however five holes remain for adjustment at the buckle. |
