| Collins manufacture No.1001 USMC issue square tip machete complete with the original leather re-inforced scabbard. 17" OAL with hardwood handles. 11 5/8" heavy steel blade. Marked on the left side "COLLINS & CO/HARTFORD" over "No 1001". Shows use, sharpening and grind marks on the blade. The Collins markings are faint and worn. The scabbard canvas has staining. The leather tip has some detached stitching at one corner. These tools saw heavy use in the Pacific islands jungles and this one shows that use. The width of the blade at the handles is 5/16", a slow taper to the tip the blade is nearly 1/8 inch thick. |
