| 10 Gauge; excellent bore, very good stock, 32'' barrel, Accompanied by a factory letter stating this shotgun was built in 1870. Breech loading pinfire gun with browned damascus 32 inch barrels. Casehardened back action locks, casehardened frame, mounted in select grade checkered walnut. 2 3/4 inch chambers both chokes gauge Improved Cylinder. 5/8 inch width rib with makers name and named special order "WILLIAM POWELL & SON, CARRS LANE, BIRMINGHAM, Made for Charles J. Whitmore". The letter also states the gun was shipped with leather case, tin case container and reloading and cleaning tools which are included with the gun. Also includes two empty pinfire shells, cork plugs and factory papers which includes instructions on loading. The top barrel lever is marked "POWELL'S PATENT", and other patent marking appear on the water table. The lock plates are marked "WILLIAM POWELL & SON". The lockplates and frame have simple double line border engraving. Straight grip stock with a 14.5 inch length of pull. Horn forend tip, single wedge. Silver initial plate inset on the bottom of the stock. Condition: Fine over all. The barrels retain 75% of the slightly reddish colored browned finish with very nice even damascus grain. Case color on the frame and lockplates is fading but visible and even as well. The wood has minor wear to the points on the checkering. Mechanically fine and tight. The leather case is in very good condition, part of the label inside the lid has worn away, about 70% of the label remains. The accessories are all in good condition. The tin container has worn black paint finish with a few dents. Antique, s/n 45xx |
