| 38 WCF; fair bore, good stock, 20'' barrel, Manufactured in c.1888. Third model. Original finish has aged and worn to a mottled light brown/gray patina overall. Original plain walnut stock and forend. Crescent buttplate with brass trap door. Fixed front sight, original ladder rear sight. Integral rail for dust cover on receiver. Dust cover with serrated rear edges. Brass cartridge elevator marked "38 Cal.", a bit faint. Serial number located on the end of the lower tang. Upper tang marked "-Model 1873-". Caliber designation marked on top of the barrel chamber "38 W.C.F.". The top of the barrel is marked in two lines with the Winchester address and King's Improvement markings with patent dates 1866 and 1860. Original saddle ring mounted on left side of receiver. There is some minor-light pitting along some edges of the receiver and sideplates. The wood shows its age and has a small split on the heel at the end of the buttplate extension, however no major damage and only slight shrinkage along borders with the metal, mainly along the upper tang. The bore shows roughness throughout with prominent rifling. Mechanically fine and parts original. Markings are all legible except on the elevator. Magazine tube has a tiny dent on the left side., s/n 2557xxB |
