BeschreibungDie veränderte Bedrohungslage in Europa bedingt ein Umdenken bezüglich der Bewaffnung der Polizei. Wie diverse Anschläge der jüngsten Vergangenheit gezeigt haben, ist der normale Polizist mit seiner bisherigen Bewaffnung nicht in der Lage, wirksam in das Geschehen einzugreifen, da das Gegenüber mit Sturmgewehren und Sprengstoffwesten bewaffnet ist. Zielsetzung der Entwicklung der Universal Service Weapon (USW) war daher, eine Waffe mit der ein «First Responder», also der normale Streifenpolizist, welcher zuerst am Anschlagsort ist, in die Lage versetzt wird, wirksam in das Geschehen einzugreifen. Darüber hinaus muss die Waffe für alle «normalen» Schusswaffeneinsätze der Polizei geeignet sein.
