In dem Maß wie Schalldämpfer an Beliebtheit gewinnen, finden wir auch mehr und mehr Kurzläufe auf dem Markt. Aber nur wenige Schützen wissen, dass ein kurzer Lauf die Wirkung und Präzision der Munition drastisch verringert. Die Standardmunition für Büchsen ist heute für Lauflängen von 61 cm optimiert, obwohl viele Läufe inzwischen nur noch 50 cm messen. In der Praxis bedeutet das, dass die Ladung beim Austritt aus der Mündung nicht vollständig verbrannt ist, was die Lebensdauer des Schalldämpfers dramatisch verkürzt und die Wirkung der Munition reduziert.
